Do you have an advance directive for your medical care? Have you appointed someone to be your medical proxy in the event that you are unable to make medical decisions for yourself? If you had a medical emergency in the street, can EMTs or a nurse use your phone to call your emergency contact without unlocking your phone? Have you thought about what type of life saving treatment you want and what sorts you would prefer not to have? Does your family know what they should do with your body after you die?
As part of the Jewish Bioethics class that I (Elior) took during the Spring Term at Rabbinic school, I had to create an adult ed class on one of the topics that we covered. This class will teach you about what rabbis have to say about medical treatments, hard choices in end of life care, organ donation, and more. Bring notetaking materials for this information packed class.
RSVP so that we know how many seats to set up and how many copies of the handouts to bring.
The contents of this class have been checked and given an A grade by the Bioethics instructor at Academy for Jewish Religion, Rabbi Jill Hackell, MD.
