Create Art With Hebrew Letters!
If you have trouble remembering the Hebrew letters, or if you haven’t really learned them at all, art can be a fun way to improve your reading skills. As you draw the letters with precision, you will get to know each one intimately. After you’ve built art out of a word, you’ll recognize it anywhere.
In this workshop we will start with some warm ups before jumping into lettering. We will practice writing each of the letters in the aleph bet using a simple block hand. During the second hour of the workshop we will play with the letters to create a poster for your wall at home to show which direction is East. This type of folkart, called a Mizrach, are a tradition across European Jewry pointing every Jew back toward Jerusalem.
This class is taught by Elior Sterling and will be the first in a series if we have enough interest.
Practice paper, felt tip calligraphy pens, and colored pencils will be provided for use during class,. You are also welcome to bring your own supplies.
This class is suitable for ages 8 – 99+
